Instructional Classes
Are you new to dance? Don't know any ballroom? The best place to start is with the Beginner Ballroom Class, a program hosted by the Campus Recreation Center. This is a great way to meet new people, as no partner is needed. This class is for students and faculty alike, as well as their friends. Your instructors will be established members of the Ballroom Club, with plenty of enthusiasm and patience. Most of the club comes to these lessons to help out, so there is always someone nearby you can ask a question of. This program is in it's fifth semester, and it is always a favorite among students, faculty, and friends. No partner is needed.
There is also an Intermediate Class that teaches new moves with extra emphasis on technique and lead/follow relationship. There is a restricted number of openings each semester for this class.
For information on this semester's classes, including schedules and costs, visit the Classes Page.

Community Club
Brand new for 2009!
UMass Lowell is proud to announce the Community Ballroom Club, allowing anyone in the Lowell area community to take part in the fun and unique club ballroom experience. Members of this club do not have to be associated with the University in any way. All that is required is a love for learning and dancing.
Membership in the Community Club includes practices every Sunday, which include professional lessons from our coach Amanda Clark. These practices are in the beautiful Campus Recreation Center studios, located on East Campus in Lowell. (See the venues page for more.) In addition to lessons and practice time, membership provides the opportunity to compete in the collegiate ballroom circuit, and provides full access to the social dancing resources of the UMass Lowell Ballroom Club.
To become a member, sign up at the Campus Recreation Center. The first practice of the year is Sunday, February 8, 2009. Cost of being in the club is $165 for the semester.
Competitions
Last year the club participated in seven intercollegiate dance competitions throughout Massachusetts, visiting Harvard, Brown, Tufts, BU, Holy Cross, and MIT. See the Competitions page for more details.
Social Dances
Ballroom is all about having fun, and the easiest way to do that is to go out and dance in a purely social environment. There are many ballroom clubs nearby to Lowell that the club frequents, as well as events hosted by other schools. There are even plans in the works for a UML-hosted intercollegiate social dance. More details are on the Social Dancing page, and you can see the events on the web calendar.

The easiest way to get more info is to send us an email at info@umlballroom.org. Or you could stop by practice on Thursdays at 6:30 pm in the Rec Center Studio 1 to see first-hand what it is we do. We have an email list that keeps people informed of upcoming events and classes, so send us an email if you want to be on that.
So now that you've read this page, feel free to wander through our website. More content is being added all the time, so check back often. Remember, all of the events we do are on the web calendar. We're glad that you're here, and can't wait to get dancing.
